Is there an answer . . .

Just one question . . .

About Jeanne

a work in progress . . . God's grace has brought me through many traumas of varying intensities and I am alive today (both physically & spiritually) because of Him and His work: "For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus"-Philippians 1:6. My childhood was spent living in many places in the United States due to my family's music or ministry—The Hicks Family, made up of Olan & Barbara Hicks, my younger brothers, Clint & Chuck & me, sang in different combos (put out an album), does so no longer professionally . . . but, visit a family gathering in Searcy & you're bound to hear some foot-tapping sounds (or catch my dad & mom on the road)! I believe that every moment of each life path (the good & what I perceive as the bad) God works together for my good as His child whether I understand it or not. MUSIC and MINISTRY are still primary aspects of the path God has me walking—so exciting! Words that have encouraged me since 1980: ". . . giving them a garland instead of ashes,The oil of gladness instead of mourning,The mantle of praise instead of a spirit of fainting So they will be called oaks of righteousness,The planting of the LORD, that He may be glorified." Isaiah 61:3

  1. That’s a hard one. I suppose one reason is when many think of guns, they only think in terms of defending themselves. Obviously, that’s a valid reason. At the same time if no one had guns there would be no need to defend themselves. That may be a rather simplistic and naïve way to look at it, but that’s how I see it.

    • Jeanne says:

You are right! I was a major gun owner at one time, mainly for personal safety I thought and I enjoyed target practice to keep my skill level up where I would be comfortable using my gun, but a policeman I was dating said that if my guns were for personal safety, there was one question to ask myself: in an “attack” situation, would I hesitate even for a second to shoot to kill – if so, it is likely my attacker would get my gun and use it against me. Soon after thinking about this, I got rid of all of my guns. MY OPINION is that there is no reason for a hunter of animals to be armed with a semi-automatic or military-type weapon or a large magazine or anything that is mainly for making it easier to kill humans – owning a gun for protection, yes (properly stored away) – carrying a gun in a public place to be a hero or protect me, NO! A well-meaning person could cause me harm in many situations (cross-fire, misreading a situation, overreacting, impeding law enforcement, etc.). Laws to restrict types of weapons owned by private citizens would not take guns away from everyone and refining the purchase process would not impact those looking for a hunting rifle or a gun for personal protection. It seems the only reason we cannot get this done is bottom-line money groups stirring up fear among many. Of course, I do believe my ultimate protector is GOD, so that impacts my peace in the midst of all this mess.

      • Amen! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been in a hard situation and have said, “Okay Lord, You know I’m stuck and can’t do a thing. Help me to trust that you’ll take care of the situation for me.” He does every time. Even those times when things may not go as perfectly as I would have liked, I remind myself that He knows best.
I’m so glad you got rid of your guns. They are scary, especially when you consider the many accidents that can – and have happened – and killed people.
